American invasion: AMA Pro Flat Track riders ready to challenge world-class field at Superprestigio

AMA Pro Racing is the premier professional motorcycle racing organization in North America, operating a full schedule of events and championships for a variety of motorcycle disciplines.  Learn more about AMA Pro Racing at www.amaproracing.com.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 9, 2014) – Two Grand National Champions and one fast up-and-coming female sensation are preparing to represent AMA Pro Flat Track in the Superprestigio, a short track exhibition event scheduled to take place this Saturday, Dec. 13 in Barcelona, Spain.

Jared Mees, Brad Baker and Shayna Texter will grind it out against more than 40 international superstars, including two-time, defending MotoGP champion Marc Marquez. The entire event, including the star-studded final, will be broadcast live to audiences in the United States on FansChoice.tv as well as the websites of Cycle World, Motorcyclist and Sport Rider, thanks to a collaborative effort between AMA Pro Racing, Bonnier Corporation and RPM Racing, the promoters of the Superprestigio.

Baker carried America’s flag proud as he represented AMA Pro Flat Track in the Superprestigio event held in January of this year. Baker was coming off an amazing championship run in 2013 to secure the AMA Pro Flat Track National No. 1 plate. The Washington native didn’t disappoint either, as he was able to get the best of Spain’s hero, Marquez, to claim the Superprestigio victory in front of a packed house.

“It’s an honor,” Baker said. “It’s really cool just to be able to be recognized on that level, that playing field with riders such as Marc [Marquez] and the other GP riders at the event.”

Unlike Baker, Michigan’s Mees has never stepped foot on European soil. The reigning Grand National Champion reclaimed the title this season after earning nine podiums and two victories, and will surely be a threat to take the checkered flag when the lights go green this Saturday.

“I’m extremely excited for this race to happen,” said Mees. “I’ve never flown overseas before and I feel very fortunate for this opportunity and to get invited to such a prestigious event. I’m confident that Brad, Shayna and I will do a good job representing America and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun competing against Marc Marquez and the other Spanish riders.”

Shayna Texter competing at DAYTONA Flat Track

Texter is the third and final AMA Pro Flat Track rider competing in the Superprestigio. The 23-year-old Pennsylvanian is the first female rider to win an AMA Pro Flat Track main event, which she first did in 2011 when she took the GNC2 checkered flag at Knoxville.

“I’m thrilled to be able to represent America and compete against my fellow competitors here in the states as well as Marc Marquez and the rest of the competition on such a big stage,” said Texter. “I feel most comfortable on a 450cc motorcycle and fortunately that’s what I’ll be racing on this weekend. This is going to be a great event.”

Additional AMA Pro Flat Track flavor will come from flagger Kevin Clark, who will be participating in the Superprestigio for the second straight year.

Kenny Noyes, the reigning FIM CEV International Superbike champion, is also slated to compete in the event for the second time, bringing the total number of American riders entered in the event to four.

Commentary for the broadcast will be handled by English MotoGP announcer Gregory Haines and AMA Pro Flat Track legend Chris Carr. The expertise Carr brings to the booth includes seven Grand National Championships and 78 victories, second all-time in GNC competition.

“While it was great to watch the Superprestigio dirt track earlier this year, I am really excited to be a part of the Fanschioce.tv team calling the action in person,” Carr said. “I look forward to seeing our last two Grand National Champions, Jared Mees and Brad Baker, as well as everybody’s fan favorite, Shayna Texter, take on the various world and national champions from Europe and beyond. Let the ‘Battle of Barcelona,’ commence!”

The Superprestigio is set to begin at 12:00 noon ET (9:00 a.m. PT) on Saturday, Dec. 13 and all of the action will be broadcast live on www.FansChoice.tv, the official home for live streaming of all AMA Pro Flat Track events. In addition to FansChoice.tv, the Superprestigio will be available for live viewing at www.cycleworld.comwww.motorcyclistonline.comwww.sportrider.com.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 74th DAYTONA 200, which will showcase the return of the AMA Pro SuperBike class to America’s most historic motorcycle race, will be held on Saturday, March 14. Tickets go on sale Monday, Aug. 4 at 9 a.m.

Earlier this year, AMA Pro Racing announced that its premier AMA Pro SuperBike class will return to the DAYTONA 200 in 2015. The season-opening event will be a 69-lap race contested on Daytona International Speedway’s 2.91-mile short course.

Since 2005, the smaller-displacement motorcycles of Formula Xtreme and GoPro Daytona SportBike have been showcased in the prestigious event. With the 2015 return of the AMA Pro SuperBikes, the top teams and riders will again headline the historic event.

“The DAYTONA 200 has a long and storied history on both the sands of Daytona Beach and on the high banks of the Speedway,” Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said. “We’re looking forward to witnessing a new chapter in the event’s history as the powerful SuperBikes from AMA’s premier class return to compete in motorcycle’s most historic and demanding race.”

In addition to the Daytona 200, the Speedway will host a full complement of AMA Pro Road Racing classes March 12-14 with the GoPro Daytona SportBike and the Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series. The AMA Pro Flat Track doubleheader is scheduled for March 12-13.

The roots of the DAYTONA 200 can be traced back to the sands of Daytona Beach with Ed Kretz Sr. winning the inaugural event back in 1937 aboard an Indian. The DAYTONA 200 moved to Daytona International Speedway in 1961 and is the only endurance race on the AMA Pro schedule.

Triumph rider Danny Eslick dominated the 2014 edition of the DAYTONA 200. Eslick became the first rider to win the DAYTONA 200 aboard a Triumph since the late Gary Nixon in 1967 and joined a long list of motorcycle legends that have conquered the grueling race including Scott Russell, Miguel Duhamel, Mat Mladin, Kenny Roberts and Dick Klamforth.

Kicking off DAYTONA 200 Week on Saturday night, March 7 will be the prestigious Daytona Supercross- the only AMA Supercross event in Florida in 2015. The tough and challenging course will once again be designed by Supercross legend Ricky Carmichael.

Following the Daytona Supercross will be the sixth annual Ricky Carmichael Amateur Supercross on Sunday, March 8 and Monday, March 9 where amateur Supercross racers will have an opportunity to test their skills on the same course used in the Daytona Supercross.

Tickets for all motorcycle racing events are available by calling 1-800-PITSHOP or online athttp://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com

Fans can stay connected with Daytona International Speedway on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram andPinterest for the latest news all season long.  Fans can follow the latest on DAYTONA Rising, the $400 million frontstretch renovation at the “World Center of Racing” by using #DAYTONARising on Twitter or visiting www.daytonarising.com.

Spectro Oils of America Announces Sponsorship of Supercross Racers.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Spectro Oils of America Announces Sponsorship of Supercross Racers.

One of the world’s foremost manufacturers of quality powersports lubricants, enters the 2014 season with some of the strongest riders of the sport.

BROOKFIELD, Conn. – March 8, 2014. Spectro Oils of America is excited to announce its sponsorship of AMA Pro 450 Weston Peick of Peick Racing, AMA Pro 450 and 250 class Vince Friese of the Factory Metal Works team, along with longtime “rippah” and Spectro rider AMA Pro 250 Jimmy Decotis. Another strong addition to the list of Spectro sponsored riders is former pro supercross rider, Ryan Sipes. Ryan is gearing up to make his GNCC racing debut this coming weekend during Daytona Bike week.

Weston Peick

Danielle Larrabee, Marketing Director of Spectro Oils said, “Spectro is thrilled to be involved with such high level riders and supporters of the sport. These riders are pushing the limits of their engines during every race. Our lubricants must withstand shearing, thermal breakdown, and be able to perform despite the dirt, sand, dust, water, mud and extreme heat of the track. Spectro is capable of continuing to provide that engineered excellence to our riders.”

Named by the industry as the “Unsung Hero,” Weston Peick’s record speaks for itself. “I work hard every day to ensure that I’m ready to perform at my peak on race day. I depend on Spectro Oil for the kind of performance and reliability that doesn’t let me down when I need it the most.” Team manager and father Louie Peick, stated, “When I was racing, race bikes were two-strokes and four strokes were for trail riding. Golden Spectro 2-Cycle kept our bikes running without failure for years. For me, choosing Spectro Platinum SX4 100% synthetic engine oil, with G4 technology for Weston’s AMA 450 SX and Outdoor programs was a no-brainer.”

Spectro’s G4 Technology refers to our 100% Pure Group IV Platinum full synthetics. It’s crafted from modern Group IV PAO (polyalphaolefin) synthetic base stocks. These PAO molecules are assembled from the ground up to provide superior strength and endurance, no matter how hard or how long you punish them.

Spectro Oils will also be working with “Team Gus, the godfather of privateers” for the 2014 season. Gus Decker has a first class operation that supports many privateer rides at every Supercross event throughout the U.S. “The Godfather Privateer Racing was established to help up-and-coming Supercross and Motocross professional riders fulfill their dream of some day becoming a top-level pro,” expressed Gus. “It’s for the non-factory supported riders. Riders now have the ability through Godfather Privateer Racing to participate at each of the AMA Supercross and Motocross series, secure a place to pit and have some level of support, which can be next to impossible to obtain during these events.”

Vince Freise

Vince Friese commented, “In the 2014 season my 450 and 250 has never run better, especially with Spectro products.” Friese is an AMA and FIM Professional Motocross and Supercross racer. He finished 4th place overall in the East Coast Lites series in the 2013 AMA Supercross Championship. Vince and the Factory Metal Works team began this years racing season with a 450 during the West Coast events. He has had some great first rounds of the 250 East Coast series along with longtime Spectro rider Jimmy Decotis.

The highly anticipated annual sweepstakes is a chance for one Buffalo Chip fan to ride off on a Ness-customized Victory Motorcycle, complete with a matching Les Paul Studio Epiphone Guitar. The Victory Motorcycle factory display at the Daytona International Speedway will showcase the bike and guitar March 8-16, and rally-goers are encouraged to stop by the free display to register for this sought-after prize package. No purchase is necessary to win this bike and guitar. One must simply register to win. Those unable to visit the Daytona Victory display may register online at http://www.BuffaloChip.com. SRS_BIKE&GTR-6x5.5-WIN+LOGOS

“It’s not every day you get to give away a custom bike and a guitar,” says Brian Kirkendall, Marketing Director for Victory Motorcycles. “To see the look on the lucky person’s face when they win — it’s one of the coolest things ever.”

The winner of the Sturgis Rider Sweepstakes will take home his or her very own 2014 Victory Cross Country® 8-Ball customized by renowned builder, Cory Ness of Arlen Ness Enterprises. The bike is chock full of distinctive custom Ness parts and unique features.

“This year’s bike is loaded up with the best of the best from Arlen Ness,” exclaims builder, Cory Ness. “We started at the front with our new Beveled 23” billet wheel, 6 degree raked trees and a 23” Ness front fender. We added some Ness ape hanger handlebars and Fusion grips to give the bike some additional attitude. We also stretched the tank to accept the custom leather seat from Le Pera. The rest of the bike is covered in Ness Beveled accessories. I’m confident this bike is going to make someone very, very happy.”

The Sturgis Rider Sweepstakes bike and guitar both feature matching custom paint jobs courtesy of award-winning painter, Kirk Taylor of Custom Design Studios. Taylor’s affinity for retro styling made him the ideal candidate to perfect both the bike and guitar’s striking exterior. He was able to realize his imaginative vision for the two using eye-catching paints from PPG.

“When the Buffalo Chip approached me about the Sturgis Rider Sweepstakes bike, they were thinking something traditional,” says Taylor. “I immediately thought of ‘California Kid,’ a traditional iconic hot rod from the ’70s. It was a ’34 Ford that was black with orange flames and white pin stripes. I didn’t think you could get much more traditional than that. So I contacted my friends at PPG, who happened to have a gorgeous orange color in their Vibrance line. The guitar and bike will be both a basic black with a pearlized orange flame and a white stripe, and the custom guitar is named the ‘California Kid.’”

“Cory Ness and Kirk Taylor have truly outdone themselves with this year’s sweepstakes bike,” says Rod Woodruff, president of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. “Bike Week visitors will absolutely be blown away when they lay eyes on this beautiful piece of machinery and its matching guitar. The Sturgis Rider Sweepstakes is one of the ways we say thank you to folks who call the Buffalo Chip home during the Sturgis Rally. With great partners like Ness Enterprises, Victory, Epiphone, Custom Design Studios and PPG, the Chip can continue to offer world-class sweepstakes prizes alongside the greatest concerts of the Rally!”

Those interested in registering for the Sturgis Rider Sweepstakes following Daytona Bike Week may do so on the Buffalo Chip website or by visiting participating rider-friendly businesses. The Sturgis Buffalo Chip will randomly select one fan to receive the Victory motorcycle and Epiphone guitar on the main stage during its 33rd annual Motorcycle and Music Festival on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014. For more information or to enter online for a chance to win, visit http://www.BuffaloChip.com.

AMA Pro SuperBikes to Return to the DAYTONA 200 in 2015

AMA Pro Racing News Release

AMA Pro SuperBikes to Return to the DAYTONA 200 in 2015

AMA Pro Road Racing’s premier class to once again compete in

America’s longest-running endurance motorcycle race

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 10, 2014)  AMA Pro Racing announced today that the premier AMA Pro SuperBike class will return to the DAYTONA 200 in 2015. The 2015 edition of AMA Pro Road Racing’s kickoff event will be a 69-lap race contested on Daytona International Speedway’s 2.91-mile short course.

“Getting the SuperBikes back in the DAYTONA 200 has been a fan request for years and we’re thrilled to be making this announcement,” said Michael Gentry, Chief Operating Officer of AMA Pro Racing. “The DAYTONA 200 is America’s premier motorcycle race, and our goal is to once again feature the biggest names in motorcycle road racing in the event.”

The DAYTONA 200 is America’s longest-running endurance motorcycle race, tracing its history to 1937 when the inaugural race was run on the sands of Daytona Beach. In 1961, the event became synonymous with Daytona International Speedway and has since seen many great names in motorcycling history win the storied event. Run at the culmination of Daytona Bike Week on Saturday afternoon, the 200-mile race is the only endurance race on the AMA Pro Road Racing schedule, and therefore provides a number of technical challenges.

The AMA Pro SuperBike class competed in the DAYTONA 200 from 1985 until 2004. Since 2005, the smaller-displacement motorcycles of Formula Xtreme and GoPro Daytona SportBike have campaigned the prestigious event. With the 2015 return of the AMA Pro SuperBikes for the 74th running of the DAYTONA 200, the top teams and riders will again headline the historic event.

“The DAYTONA 200 boasts a long and prestigious history since it first ran on the sands of Daytona Beach over seven decades ago, crowning some of the true legends of motorcycle racing in that time,” said Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood.  “Our fans have been patiently waiting for the premier class to return to the weekend’s headline event.  We are thankful to AMA Pro Racing, as well as Dunlop and the OEM’s for working together to help make this move a reality for 2015.”

The adjustments to the AMA Pro SuperBike rules package, planned as part of the recently-announced AMA Pro Road Racing class restructuring, are a key component to getting the SuperBikes back in the DAYTONA 200 for the 2015 running. Another important element is the commitment of AMA Pro Road Racing’s spec tire partner Dunlop to the continual development of tires which are specifically suited to the special demands of Daytona International Speedway.

“Dunlop is excited about the prospect of having SuperBikes back in the DAYTONA 200,” said Mike Buckley, Vice President of Dunlop. “Everyone on the Dunlop design and service team are enthusiasts first and foremost so the entire team is looking forward to supporting this endeavor.”

The 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing season will kick off once again at Daytona International Speedway. The event is scheduled for March 13 – 15, 2014 and will have the same three-day format featured in recent years, highlighted by the 73rd running of the DAYTONA 200 on Saturday afternoon.  For tickets and information, please visit http://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com.

Keith McCarty, Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., Motorsports Racing Division Manager: “The DAYTONA 200 is an iconic event, and it’s only fitting that SuperBikes–AMA Pro Road Racing’s premier class–should be the bikes that compete in the 200. Over the years, Yamaha riders have won the prestigious DAYTONA 200 a total of 22 times, on everything from our two-stroke production racers and Formula 1 GP bikes, to our four-stroke middleweight machines like the YZF-R6 and SuperBikes like the FZ750, OW01, and YZF750R. As the ‘Great American Motorcycle Race’ approaches its 75th consecutive year of competition, we at Yamaha are excited that SuperBikes will be returning to their rightful place in the DAYTONA 200 next year.”

Pat Alexander, American Suzuki Motor Corporation, Sports Promotion Manager: “American Suzuki Motor Corporation is looking forward to returning to compete in the Daytona 200 on the Suzuki GSX-R1000. We see great potential in returning to the 1000cc racing platform for the DAYTONA 200 and we’re looking forward to trying to make that win happen.”

Don Sakakura, Yoshimura R&D of America, Inc., Vice President: “In years past, Yoshimura and Suzuki have been very successful racing the historic DAYTONA 200 event. We’re very excited to hear the 2015 DAYTONA 200 will feature the 1000cc SuperBikes. We anticipate our Yoshimura / Suzukis will be very competitive in the 200 mile format.”

Erik Buell, EBR, Founder: “I was very excited to hear that the DAYTONA 200 will be returning to the premier class format it had for so many years. Years ago, one of my great aspirations as a racer was to reach the highest status so I could race in this legendary event. To have the DAYTONA 200 back in the original format is both the right tribute to the past and a proper recognition of the technology of today where modern tires and sophisticated electronics can allow top riders to harness the tremendous power of the machines.”

Josh Hayes, Three-Time AMA Pro SuperBike Champion and Rider of the No. 4 Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R1: “The DAYTONA 200 is our biggest race of the season, so the biggest and best bikes should be competing in it. And, of course, that’s the SuperBikes. I’m looking forward to the 2015 DAYTONA 200, when SuperBikes will make their return. I say, ‘Welcome back!'”

Roger Lee Hayden, Rider of the No. 95 Yoshimura Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000: “I’m really excited for the SuperBikes to be back in the DAYTONA 200. It’s the biggest race of the year and it seems only fitting for the biggest class in AMA Pro to be competing in it. I grew up watching the DAYTONA 200 and it was always the SuperBike guys I looked up to that were winning it, so it’s been my childhood dream to win the race. Hopefully this will also bring some international riders over like it has in the past. I can’t wait and I think it’s a great idea.”

Larry Pegram, Rider of the No. 72 Foremost Insurance Pegram Racing EBR 1190RS: “I’m glad that the DAYTONA 200 is on the road back to the being biggest race in the world again. The first step is getting the big bikes back in the race.”

Scott Russell, Five-Time Winner of the DAYTONA 200: “As a former winner of the biggest motorcycle race in America, I’m happy to hear that the SuperBikes will be back in the DAYTONA 200. It’ll create more interest when we have all of the top riders back in the big race at Daytona. I think this is an extremely important move, and it makes me very happy.”

Yamaha Motor Corp. will be presenting sponsor for
AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Breakfast at Daytona, March 14
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame is pleased to announce that Yamaha Motor Corp. will be the presenting sponsor of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Breakfast at Daytona, presented by Yamaha, on Friday, March 14, in Daytona Beach, Fla.

This year’s special guest will be motorcycle inventor, designer, racer and Hall of Famer Craig Vetter. Vetter’s iconic Windjammer fairings were ubiquitous in the 1970s and ’80s, and he designed bikes like the Mystery Ship and the Triumph X-75 Hurricane before turning his attention to high-mileage motorcycles, a cause he still champions today with a series of contests.

Jeff Heininger, chairman of the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, said the Hall of Fame is very pleased to welcome Yamaha as presenting sponsor.

“Like Craig Vetter, Yamaha has a strong tradition in the touring motorcycle arena, and the company has been a strong supporter of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame over the years,” he said. “We’re glad to have them onboard, and we look forward to a great event with Craig Vetter and other Hall of Famers in attendance at our Breakfast at Daytona, presented by Yamaha.”

“Just as we are very proud of our own heritage, we are equally as proud of the tremendously creative contributions to motorcycling’s history as those made by this year’s honoree, Craig Vetter,” said Yamaha General Manager of Communications Bob Starr. “Craig’s designs influenced much of what the touring and sport market is today, and Yamaha is indeed proud to join the AMA in honoring this icon of the industry.”

Taking place during 2014 Daytona Bike Week on Friday, March 14, at the Daytona 500 Club inside Daytona International Speedway, the fundraising breakfast will include a live interview with Vetter on stage, an audience question and answer period and an autograph session with the AMA Hall of Famer.Tickets for the breakfast, the proceeds from which support the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame and its mission to promote motorcycling’s heritage and history to this and future generations, are available now atwww.motorcyclemuseum.org.
